Paper: the economical default
Semi-gloss paper is the industry-standard prime label stock: it prints beautifully, accepts varnish, and costs the least. For dry, indoor products — boxed foods, jars in the pantry, retail price marking — paper does everything you need. Matte litho paper offers a natural, uncoated look that suits artisanal brands and is easy to write on, useful for batch or date marking by hand.
Paper's weakness is water. Sustained moisture wrinkles it, and abrasion wears the print. That's when you move to film.
Film: when the label has to survive
- White BOPP: the go-to for anything wet or refrigerated — waterproof, tear-resistant, squeeze-tolerant. Shampoo bottles, refrigerated foods, beverage cold chains.
